Side Quest Extra #9 - Burnout
not the fun, car-exploding kind
There's an old folk story in Women Who Run With the Wolves called 'Manawee'. In the story, there are two sisters. A man would like to marry them, but first, he needs to know their names. (So far, so Rumplestiltskin.) The man's dog comes to the rescue, getting to know the women, and finding out their names. But every time he decides to run home to tell his master, something distracts him: food, usually, or another animal to combat. Eventually, he resists the temptation of distraction. He tells his owner the names, and the owner marries both women at once. Happily ever after! Or something.
Look it's not a perfect story by any stretch of the imagination. But one of the lessons that the writer extrapolates from it is this: women have two sides. The neat, orderly, outside version of herself. The one that everyone meets, the one that smiles politely, behaves correctly, and does what she needs to do. Then, there's the other side of her. The wilder, less well-behaved, more passionate side. You have to have a good balance of both. If you get too domesticated, you start to lose your mind. If you get too wild, everything goes to shit.
